I finally made a trip to SF after 365+ days of absent. This time, my destination is Asian Art Museum of San Francisco. Yes, I'm not a big "art" fan, but I was there for the Tezuka: The Marvel of Manga exhibition. Osamu Tezuka is a very famous mangaka (Japanese manga artist) at my time. Although I'm not a big fan of his, but sure enough I have seen/heard of Astro Boy (鐵臂阿童木/小飛俠阿童木/原子小金剛), Balck Jack (怪醫秦博士/怪醫黑傑克). Just recently, one of his manga, Dororo (多羅羅/怪俠多羅羅), was made into a movie starring the hottest sob in Japan (IMO),
Tsumabuki Satoshi (妻夫木聡). For those of you who are thinking about going to the exhibition, let me warn you, don't have high hope on it. You won't find a lot of details on the each of the manga. They just show one or two sample pages and a brief description on what it is about. Most of all, they don't have all the manga shown in the exhibition. To my surprise, they didn't even have Mitsume ga Tooru (The Three-Eyed One, 三眼神童/三眼小子). Although they don't have a full collection of his manga on display, but it has opened my eyes on the ones that I'm not too familiar with, like Fushigi na Merumo (Marvelous Melmo). It is a very cute manga targeting for girl teens. It sort of remind me of Magical Angel Creamy Mami (我係小忌廉), one of my old time favorite.
After the exhibition, we went to Mango Medleyfor lunch. Food is delicious, but the portion is small. Mango is their specialty so they used alot of mango in there dishes (ie: mango shrimp salad, mango bacon fried rice, etc). We ordered a FAST meal of the day (mango bacon fried rice), bacon mushroom spaghetti with cream sauce, and curry shrimp stir fired flat noddle. All of them are very yummy (or because we are so hungry)
. We also ordered mango dessert (mango crepes, mango grapefruit , and mango almond jello). I guess I haven't had mango through out the year, so having lots of mango in one meal is very fulfilling
.
Special thanks to Ms. S for sharing the picture.
